Travel Information Kolkata (erstwhile Calcutta) is the capital of West Bengal. Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) is in the north-eastern part of the city and is located in Sector-I, Block AF of Saltlake (also called Bidhannagar). You can reach the VECC campus by various modes of transport. By Air: Kolkata is well connected by air. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International airport (CCU) is destination for many national and international flights. Pre-paid taxis are available at airport to travel to VECC at Saltlake. The pre-paid taxi booth is located near the exit gate of the airport. It can be accessed both from inside as well as outside of the exit gate. ( Just ask for Salt lake, Sector 1 at Prepaid Booth) Land Mark: C.A.P. camp (near tank no. 5). Taxi-route: Airport-to-Ultadanga-to-Saltlake (Fare : Approx INR 260 prepaid) By Train: There are three major railway stations - Howrah, Sealdah and Kolkata (Chitpur). Prepaid taxis are available at Howrah/Sealdah/Kolkata station to travel to VECC at Saltlake. Land Mark: C.A.P. camp (near tank no. 5). Taxi-route: Howrah/Sealdah/Kolkata (Chitpur)-to-(via)Ultadanga-Saltlake. (Fare : Approx INR 200 prepaid from Howrah & Approx 150 from Sealdah/Kolkata) By Bus: Air conditioned volvo buses are available from airport and Howrah railway stations. You have to get down at Dumdum park bus stop and take the footbridge to cross the Kestopur canal to reach the VECC campus.
